OUR STORY
Rooted in Faith, Family & Community
We are Louis and Jen Giambertone. Louis is a veteran and firefighter/paramedic, and Jen is a former flight nurse. Together we are raising six children in Eastern North Carolina. What began as a family homestead rooted in faith, family, and simple living has grown into The Way Station, a community mercantile dedicated to quality goods, local connections and intentional living.
After years of serving others through military service, emergency medicine and homesteading, we dreamed of creating a place where the neighbors could gather, learn and shop with purpose. We are honored to continue that tradition of service in a storefront within the historic Bynum's Drug Store building, a place that has long been a part of downtown New Bern's story. The Way Station brings together bulk dry goods, natural household products, handmade goods and local artisans under one roof.
Our hope is simple: to create a welcoming space that honors tradition, supports community and makes everyday living a little more meaningful.
A Ledger of Stories
Every town has stories worth preserving.
When we began building The Way Station, we wanted more than a store. We wanted a place where neighbors gather, local makers are celebrated, and simple traditions are passed from one generation to the next.
After a long search, we found a vintage mercantile ledger that traveled from Australia to New Bern. For generations, its paged remained empty—not forgotten, but waiting for the right chapter to begin. Soon, it will begin a new chapter here.
This ledger will help preserve the story of The Way Station—the makers who share their craft, the families that walk through our doors, the milestones we celebrate, and the community we are honored to serve.
Because while products fill shelves, people create the story.
And every good story deserves to be written down.
