Welcome to The Way Station Mercantile.

Nestled within the historic Bynum's Drug Store Building in downtown New Bern, North Carolina, The Way Station was created from a simple belief: that quality goods, meaningful community, and traditional skills still matter.

What began as Liberty Fields Homestead—a family homestead rooted in faith, family, and simple living—has grown into a mercantile dedicated to bringing bulk dry goods, handmade products, local makers, workshops, and community together under one roof.

We are Louis and Jen Giambertone. Louis is a veteran, Combat Medic Instructor, and firefighter/paramedic, and Jen is a former flight nurse. Together, we are raising six children in Eastern North Carolina and have spent years serving our community through military service, emergency medicine, homesteading, and small business.

Along the way, we found ourselves longing for a place where neighbors could gather, learn traditional skills, discover quality products and build meaningful connections. The Way Station was born from that vision.

We are honored to continue a tradition of service in a storefront within the historic Bynum's Drug Store building, a place that has long been part of downtown New Bern's story. While the shelves and products may change over time, our purpose remains the same: to create a welcoming space that encourages faith, family, community, and intentional living.

Inside you'll find bulk dry goods, natural household products, handmade goods, locally crafted items, workshops, special events, and a growing community of people who value simple living and meaningful connection.

One of the most treasured pieces of our mercantile is a vintage Founders Ledger that traveled from Australia to New Bern. For generations, its pages remained empty, waiting for the right chapter to begin. Very soon, it will hold signatures, stories, milestones,,,, and memories of the people who believed in our vision and helped shape The Way Station.
